Shared Custody Arrangements

The goal of Oregon custody laws are to ensure that minor children get plenty of time with both parents whenever it is in the best interest of the child. One way to accomplish this is with a shared custody arrangement. However, a parenting time agreement that allows the child to stay with each parent about half the time is the type of shared custody most parents have in mind. While joint legal custody only shares the decision-making responsibilities, shared parenting time allows the parents to divide caretaking responsibilities, holidays, and vacations so both the child and parents can maintain frequent and continuing contact to foster strong relationships.
